You might wonder why your companion, your best friend, is howling when you howl. Your dog’s unique heart is bound to you as a lifelong friend. They feel you. They wish to please you with all the feelings that they have for you.
As a puppy, they learn from their parents to do many things. Howling usually comes about from sorrow, but first it is important to understand that when you howl it is usually done from a feeling of connection with your beloved animal. As you howl they align with you and begin howling in harmonious symphony with their master; their best friend.
We have all seen on many occasions the joyous accompaniment of a dog howling; attuning themselves to their human counterpart. We have all been witness to this beloved enactment, often laughing to the point of rolling on the ground with sheer joy at seeing the folly of this entertaining act that a dog does to show their loyalty in fellowship.
As for walking through a town and hearing a dog howling in the distance, this is more mysterious. It is an act of power. A reflection of sadness that pervades the shadows and indicates longing, beckoning the regions of mystery that are hidden within the corners of loneliness within the night.
When this act of magic occurs the dog’s message is the message of a person, sitting in solitude, bewildered and beset by their circumstance that they cannot conceive of escaping. As we walk the cobbled streets that weave intricately in that town of our imaginations, one can become aware that this person has delayed too long and has not acted accordingly and have sat complacently under a shadow of expectations.
There he is affixed and lost to his own freedom; his will of creativity. Here is where his heart is longing to be free and his beloved friend, the dog from his distant past, send his yearnings to the night to be heard as a lonely call that longs for release.
The world of a dog is mysterious and abundant with joy and frolicking enthusiasm for the connection with their human partner. Under the shining sun they play within fields and parks, fetching each others joys as they throw their loving intentions between their joyous hearts.
Each word we write, everything we expel from our feelings is a howl that has contained within it the happiness and sorrow of our journeys on this mysterious life that we have entered into with our howling counterparts; our affectionate howling dogs.
