Accepting The Tasks At Hand With Love and Compassion

This application for the 2017 Parallel Perception Scholarship was submitted by Brian West.  If you would like to offer your support for Brian please leave a comment at the end of this blog post.

It all started when I was a child and my father asked me what I wanted to do when I grew up. I couldn’t give him a solid answer because I only knew that I wanted to help people. He named a few for me, police officer, fire man, but I didn’t feel that any of these were true for me. I didn’t realize this back then but I feel that I always knew that there was a better way to help people, a way so they can sustain themselves in any circumstance.

I came across the documentary The Cosmic Giggle and I was drawn to the ideas and Lujan’s teaching left me felling refreshed and I begun to dive into his interviews which then led me to his books. I have been applying the techniques from Whisperings of the Dragon to my life and I am now realizing a lot from my past and things are beginning to make since. I am just having trouble being consistently light hearted mostly because the line of work I am in.

I am a union carpenter and my tasks often involve aggressive movement, jerking objects around, loud noise, metal on metal hammering and I leave work tense in the muscles and a load of pressure on my heart. When I get home, I am able to return to my silent center as I complete a session of yoga and meditation before bed.

I realized as I was learning more in Lujan’s books that I practiced correcting my choices in my life already with how I speak to people and how I treat the environment around me. These are all things that carried over from my grandfather whom I watched as a child because he was quiet and the hardest working man I know and treated everyone with respect.

I bring this up to point that Lujan gives me a similar feeling to that of my grandfather, that of a man who takes care of what needs to be done and accepts the tasks at hand with love and compassion, flowing seemingly effortlessly through life. The main reason why I am applying for the scholarship is to finally understand what my grandfather showed me within myself and to express the fullness of my heart to the environment around me to deliver what is needed for me to harmonize.

I would be honored to meet Lujan and learn the movements he teaches, I feel that this will help me to operate true in my circumstances in a way that I was when I was a child. This is a way that I want to return to, being buoyant and lighting the situation wherever I go because I can see that this helps people in the way that I was talking about when I answered my dads question. Being all I can be for the all to turn to completion, for the little ones who watch me as they grow and for the wave to eternally continue.

  1. Brian,

Thank you for sharing your desire.

I would be very happy to see you experience a workshop with Lujan. Not because I feel it would help you operate true in your circustances as a carpenter, but I feel it would help you see yourSelf beyond your circumstances as a carpenter. I hear in your words that you have an inherited lineage of a much deeper calling.

  2. That was beautiful.
